Sociology in Bamberg
The University of Bamberg has - besides the very well positioned Sciences and Information Systems – a distinctive profile in Social and Economic Sciences, including above all the empirical education-, labour market- and political research.
These interdisciplinary priorities are clearly expressed for instance in the “Nationale Bildungspanel (NEPS)" within the newly established “Leibniz-Institut für Bildungsverläufe” as well as the excellence initiative “Bamberg Graduate School of Social Sciences (BAGSS)” promoted by the Federal Government. Furthermore there is a close cooperation with the “Institut für Arbeitsmarkt und Berufsforschung”.
In the hotspots education and labour expecially the colleagues of Sociology are strongly involved. Research and education of Sociology in Bamberg stands for practical, applied research as well as theoretical tightly associated empirical social research within the priority areas education, labour market and labour organisation, family and demography, migration and integration, communication and internet as well as European and global studies.
Sociology in Bamberg started about 40 years ago. The sociology congress in 1982 with the widely discussed title ‘Crisis of the work society?’ was one of the highlights. Since then the University of Bamberg is well known for sociology. Vaskovics, Beck, Schulze, Münch, Blossfeld, et al created a sustainable local foundation with a broad and strong international network which has been successfully enlarged and stabilized for many years by the colleagues in Bamberg.
We and the colleagues of Bamberg Sociology are looking forward to seeing you!
